  After reading this book, one might be tempted to laugh and shrug off the obscene number of federal crimes as just irrelevant historic artifacts. However, there is a serious point to be made here too.   Many crimes may look motivated by hate. Proving it can be a different story. While hate crime laws may vary, the intent generally is to punish more harshly crimes committed owing to an underlying bias or hate.
